Based on the attached case study (Second Chance), discuss the following questions. 1. What do you think Keith Lam would do, given his role and the circumstances? Why? 2. What should be done? What do you think Keith Lam would do, given his role and the circumstances? Why? What should be done? I believed that Keith will hire Susan as there had recently been three resignations in HR department and had being uneasy over this issue. Keith also believed that others can really perform and be satisfied with their job if they can deliver their job with their strength and capabilities.

Besides, Keith is aware of Susan’s attitude and capability: good people engagement, good knowledge of the company and willing to learn. Basically, Susan is best to fit in for the new position. Keith can also coach her as he has a lot of experience in HR field and has been in United for 5years. Keith can adopt the situational approach which can best fit since he has the capability to guide Susan. It is a good leadership style which includes both directive and supportive behaviors. With Susan’s years of experience in the company, Susan be classified as D3 employee.

She will be comfortable fulfilling any task with her good interpersonal skill and familiar with the operations of the company. However, when comes to HR matters, Susan has to be trained since she is new to the job; making her D2 in this skill. Given her capability and attitude, Keith can use S2 (Coaching) leadership with Susan. If task is more complicated and difficult, Keith can use S1 (directing) behavior with Susan. Based on the leadership theories that were discussed in class, which leadership style will you adopt if you are leading a virtual team across regions?

Number of postings (at least 2 per topic) I am sure that you will have lots to discuss, given the challenges of managing a virtual team, including difficulties of not being able to meet face-to-face. Based on the leadership theories that were discussed in class, which leadership style will you adopt if you are leading a virtual team across regions? Why? Support your views with relevant leadership theories and (if applicable) real life experiences. Most “virtual” teams operate in multiple modes including having face-to-face meetings when possible.

Managing a virtual team means managing the whole spectrum of communication strategies and project management techniques as well as human and social processes in ways that support the team. With increasing relevance of distributed communications systems (Internet, Intranets, groupware) in a diversity of working groups’ everyday lives, innovators in the field will need to integrate these virtual practices into their current team building strategies as well as learn how to continually improve virtual group process.

Virtual team across region especially is highly sensitive as team members are not meeting each other. Choosing the right modes of communication is very important. In modern world, for example in my case, I rely on electronics means like email for sharing of information and whatspp for instant group discussion. Lastly, having monthly tele-conference or video conference is important as this bring the human touch and build trusts. Apart from communication means, I will adopt team Leadership model. The model allows me to identify group needs and offers suggestions about how to take appropriate corrective actions.

I will align the team to common goals and solves various Internal (relational, task) and external (environmental) issues that arises. I will need to recognize and interpret what is getting in way of the team’s goal accomplishment and then make strategic choice and respond with the appropriate action. If a problem is diagnosed as team performance problem, I will need to determine the action to solve this task problem (e. g training, goal setting). If a problem is diagnosed as a team development problem, I will determine the action to solve relational problems (e.g coaching, managing conflicts).

If a problem is diagnosed as an environmental problem, I will solve this context problem (e. g Communication, sharing information). The last outcome of Hill’s model for team leadership focus on achieving team effectiveness. The real-life focus on performance and team effectiveness enables leaders to diagnosed and correct team problems. By learning what constitutes excellent teams and applying to team performance, leaders can learn to better lead team to highest level of excellence.
